Hello to all who want insider trade secrets on the upcoming feature film staring ol favs like Bones, Kirk, Scotty, and yes that green blooded Vulcan known as Spock are in "Star Trek Into Darkness" which will be opening shortly after I return from my own little Trek into a place of light called Canada. I will hopefully be able to see it before I return to Albly's as I have famously nick named my workplace of Albertson's. Today I wanna introduce everyone who reads this blog to a feature known as comic reviews 2013 it was started back during the first month of this year, yet this is the first one out of the publishing gate. The first comic of this series I got back in the latter part of this past January when I went to Adventures Underground
in uptown Richland. While looking for new stuff to look at to see if I wanted more in my monthly box (every comicbook store in the United States will hold a title for you as long as you pick it up with in the next month or sooner, which reminds me in the first week of June or second one I have to check my box to see what goodies I have in it.) Back to the first of the year I was as I said looking at older trades here and there when on the area of where "New Comics" were I recalled a sub section where they happen to have a new set of the new and classic Star Trek comics while going through those I had found a comic, with the hand drawn Chris Pine version of Captain Kirk seen from this teaser art I found to "The official comic Prelude to STAR TREK INTO DARKNESS
. STAR TREK COUNTDOWN TO DARKNESS First issue I just knew I had to have it and the forth coming parts as well, so I asked George one the store employee's to put it 's next parts in my box. He said he would or rather that the store would. So with the long, long overdue introduction out of the way I am please to bring you the review of issue # 1 of ST::CDTD!
The story for the comic story is based off of one of two main writers of the film, in this case it is Roberto Orci who is the connected screen writer working with an actual comic book writer Mike Johnson. The artist for the series is David Messina, with inking assist help from Marina Castevetro, the one in charge of colors is a young lady by the acess name of Claudia Scarletgothica, and the creative consultant connecting the two projects together is a fellow by the name of Anthony Pascale, the editor of this space masterpiece is Scott Dunbier and at last the letter of the space racing is Chris Mowry. The cover price for each is $3.99 a piece. It is published not by Detective Comics or Marvel comics the main two comic giants , nor by Image comics as well but by
,which stands for Ideas Design Works.
The story begins with both First officer Spock and the captain Kirk resting just before their next shift watch on the bridge of the starship that they both serve on known as the U.S.S. Enterprise NCC-1701. Kirk is busy arguing with his private quarters computer in the wee hours of the morning, while Mister Spock the ship's first officer is experiencing a rare human occurrence during his own R.E.M. known as dreaming, do Vulcan's do this your guess is as good as mine for a answer? Still one thing continued from the first movie reboot of Star Trek 2009 is Spock's relationship with Lt Nyota Uhura (yes that is right I just revealed something never known about a Star Trek character that is has always been unknown to us all) comes to Spock's quarters to help him with his R.E.M. problem when he as always seems to push her away. The Enterprise enters the orbit of a uncharted planet known as PHAEDUS. Of course Spock and Kirk have their ever classic debate of Violation of the Prime Directive as Kirk decides as he does that from his limited information he decision the crew goes with at with the matters before them. He, Mr. Spock Lt Sulu and the guy who punched Kirk's lights in the bar fight from the aforementioned movie, take a shuttle down to the surface of PHAEDUS only to be blown out of the sky by laser fire at the same time Sulu is knocked unconscious from the resulting occurrence. While the Red shirt crew member tends to Sulu Spock and Kirk try to find out what had caused them to crash in the first place and come across the species that occupy the planet, come to find out that there is a huge communication rift between them.As they try for a second time it is Kirk himself that notices, this alien race seems to have a much older Fredation communicator device as than what they have now. When Kirk identifies who he is to the alien leader he also asks one very important question? that being, "Where did you get that device?" the alien doesn't answer his question in the way you'd think possible, but a breaded old man comes forward saying he is a former captain of the Enterprise and his name is Robert April........
To be continued!
My thoughts: I have to say for the longest time I was sure I was ready to just give up on even partly collecting comics again for the reason that I felt I was falling out of love with the four color world of comics because of what Marvel has done to their own flagship character of treating him as a pompous spoiled child that is too bratty to even like. Sorry I didn't mean to air my distaste of a great hero being dumped on by the powers that be but till Parker and Mary Jane are one as a couple again I think new stuff pharseringout in comic form is just what ever lost science nerd or geek needs. The art alone stands out really well I almost feel that I am on the bridge of the Enterprise itself. The storytelling seems so right on for a altered reality of the Trek characters since the first film from back in 2009,I can't say it enough I may have peeked at other Trek comics in the past but this one did what the aforementioned flag ship character of marvel did for me once and that was a comic story is very neat as long as you steer the product at your intended adunidce!
